I was supposed to blog today. And I didn’t. But don’t worry, it’s been recorded in the fault database, and will be reflected in my end of year bonus.
I blame the whole working three jobs/moving into a new house on my recent absence from White Elephant duties, but upper management is not so lenient around these parts.
And Jane was employee of the month for only one month. HR decided that it showed favouritism and that it was not an effective team-building exercise, so it was nixed. I guess she didn’t get the memo.

Seperation Anxiety

Jane, a very large part of me wants to sell the Owl & Lion Gallery's line of hardbound notebooks, but then another very large part of me says no, because if I actually had one in my possession, I would never be able to part with it.

Dry Goods

It's been really hard posting home related items here since we got our house, since I am so close to purchasing absolutely fucking everything. Like these gorgeous Weck Jars from Heath Ceramics. I know I don't need them, but I really can't stop thinking about how pretty they'd make my new kitchen.

Hollie and I signed up for twitter last week, and I've been on the fence about whether or not I like it. Until now. Thanks to the twitter account of the lovely Design Sponge, I've found these gorgeous Charley Harper-esque iPhone covers. Now I just need an iPhone.

Fortune 500
Did you know I’ve been the employee of the month 3 months in a row? How about that only 50% of White Elephant’s HR department supports this? I bet you didn’t know we have a fault database… too many recorded faults and it starts affecting our Christmas bonus?
These are things you learn when you read the blog!
Hollie and I like to run White Elephant like it’s a real, honest to goodness, corporate company. This means we have departments like HR, Finance & Admin and Health & Safety. It also means all of these departments are run by exactly two people: me and Hollie.
Basically we use these departments to our advantage. When a chair broke while I was hanging pictures on the wall, I decided to file a claim with Workers Comp. Hollie said I was rejected for not paying my union dues. I was outraged.
When Hollie was late for work, HR was not happy about it.
When I forgot to take out the garbage, I got a fault recorded in the database. Let’s hope I don’t get any more… my bonus is on the line!
A while back Hollie wanted to go on a White Elephant funded shopping trip. Great idea, except Finance & Admin decided there was no room in the budget. Too bad. Maybe next year.
We also have a neighbour named Joe down the street from our store. He doesn’t work for the corporation, but he tries to get in on the action. Whenever we’re a few minutes late, or hanging outside instead of working, Joe tries to fire us. Nice try Joe, HR doesn’t agree.

I love the idea of using all natural handmade products for all my bath and body needs. I love these adorable Etsy products for their packaging almost as much as I love their products.

Superb Scrawl
In a little under two weeks, White Elephant will be turning ONE YEAR OLD. We did it! We avoided financial ruin! So far.
We’re getting really excited about this, and to celebrate we’re throwing a good old fashioned birthday party on October 9th. Think party dresses, party hats, balloons, pom-poms and some delicious birthday treats for all.
Our birthday party coincides with Super Crawl, which is Art Crawl, but with a dash more super. James Street North will be closed from Wilson/York to Cannon, and there will be stages with musical acts, street vendors, street performers, and awesome after parties. It’s going to be the biggest thing James Street North has ever seen. You’re not going to want to miss out. Check Supercrawl.ca for all the information.

And not to boast or anything, but my wonderful husband Mike is designing all the promotional work. What a guy.

Fox Confessor

I am delighted over the new series of fox prints from a favourite around the White Elephant parts, artist Julianna Swaney. They can be found at The Shiny Squirrel, and hopefully, very soon, my dining room walls.

The Stand Ins is one of those albums that I got a long time ago, listened to a couple songs once or twice, and then recently re-discovered and can't stop listening to. Go now! Get Okkervil River! You will not be dissapointed.

I think that I would like to wake up to one of Carly Waito's gorgeous oil paintings of minerals each and every morning. Housewarming gift, anyone?

I posted this same shop around the same time last year, and I'm still wondering... is it too much to ask for a fall jacket from Little Houses? PLEASE?

S is for Spoke Too Soon

I've been bugging Hollie about her maternal instincts kicking in lately, mainly because she's been posting a lot of children and baby stuff. Now I might have to eat my words, because I would LOVE to put this Animal A-Z poster by Ink and Wit in a nursery or child's room!

Did you hear that? I believe that was the sound of MY OVARIES EXPLODING. Baby Hank Vintage is the only baby clothing store in my mind, from here on out.

I think it's pretty evident by now that a surefire way to find yourself as the object of our affection is to carry cute mid-century dresses. That's a bingo, Small Earth Vintage!
