Jon and Sonja

My Parents Were Awesome. Heck, yes. This site is totally sweet and made me smile on an otherwise pretty gloomy Friday.

My Fair Lady

Absolutely stunning fascinators and headpieces (and photography!) from It's Okay My Dear at The Shiny Squirrel. I think I'll need to order one of these for all those upcoming holiday parties.

Decisions

Oh Anthropologie, so many tights! So hard to choose just one pair!

A Cock-a-Roach!

Yesterday here at White Elephant, we were sent into red alert status. That morning, I received a letter at my home address from the Government of Ontario stating that White Elephant owed $2500+ in back taxes, and that we would have 10 days to comply, or else it would result in LEGAL ACTION.

Needless to say, Jane and I fuh-reaked out. Especially since we had no idea where that number had come from, as we had been paying our taxes. We haven’t been the most diligent people with them, but enough to keep the tax man off our backs. Or so we thought.

This sent us into a downward spiral of thinking that maybe we wouldn’t be able to make it. That we had to come up with new ways to make money FAST. We were really on the brink of financial ruin.

Jane called the phone number on the letter. It got worse. They had no record of us ever filing any taxes. They had no record of us making any payments. We were going under, and fast. We reached our one year anniversary, and it seemed that would be the only anniversary we’d ever see.

“But wait, it appears as though there are two business account numbers set up under your name. We do have records of you filing and making payments, yes, here they are. I’ll just delete that second account that is causing the problems. You don’t owe $2500+. Silly us, that’s our mistake. You’re totally fine.”

SILLY YOU, INDEED, GOVERNMENT.

We breathed a collective PHEW and went back to business as usual. Something good did end up coming out of it. A plan to expand the White Elephant empire, starting very soon, but of which I can’t divulge the information about just yet. We’ve been in talks about this project for a while, but never really had the fire put under our feet to get it up and running. Yesterday did it for us. And something serendipitous came into play, but you’ll find out more about that soon.

Also, even though we celebrated our birthday two weeks ago, today is our birthday again!!! We’re greedy. Two years ago we opened up White Elephant the online store. HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO US.

Our friend and extremely talented artist Christina Sealey took this photo of us during SuperCrawl. I swear, as soon as I can find the proper cables for my camera in the chaos that is my junk house right now, I’ll upload many, many more.

Good as Gold

If you were ever to see the decor of my house, you'd figure out pretty quickly that mustard is one of my favourite colours. But I think I should start incorporating it into my wardrobe as well. Maybe with some of these drool-worthy vintage pieces from Greatest Friend.

The Dude Abides

It's that time of year when all I want to wear is cozy sweaters. Preferably of the curling variety.

Clockwise from top left: 50's Vintage Men's Wool Sweater from Silly Rabbit Vintage, Vintage Chunky Wool Sweater Coat from Black Bird Vintage, Vintage 1950's Blue Reindeer Wool Sweater from Catbooks1940's, Wool Nordic Print Knit Sweater from The Loved One, 60's Wool Ski Sweater from Rocky Mountain Retro, Vintage Snowflake Bell Sleeve Sweater from Loves Me Not.

Lesson Learned

I am more than a little heart broken that I somehow missed out on this matching coat, dress and beret from Sally Jane Vintage. From now, I must be more vigilant with my Etsy shopping.

Flickr Favourites

untitled by este pequeño corazón.

Cushions and Cosies

I'm not generally a fan of tea cosies, but these ones from Maxine Sutton are just too adorable to pass up. Not to mention the fact that they are made from organic cotton and padded with recycled material from plastic bottles. That's a cosy I can get behind.

Don't Let The Man Get You Down

I first found out about Ashley Anna Brown when someone linked this blog about some big box company stealing her designs. After reading about her ordeal with the man, I'm even more in love with her adorable Fern Animals than ever.

Lessons in Capes

Did you guys ever have a Cape Girl in your highschool? You know, the kind that wore a full Merlin the magician-type cape every day? We did. I only wish I could go back in time and say everything would be so much easier if you just wore this Modern Grey Capelet by Holly Stalder instead!

Foliage

I think that wearing the Pressed flowers and leaves pin set from Etsy seller Watersounds, all winter would be a lovely reminder of better things to come.

Get A Room

Me and these Michelle Lane hand-knotted necklaces are pretty much in love. You can fall in love too over at Shop Standing Up.

Winter Greys and Blues

It is really truly not possible for me to drool more over these Recycled Lambs Wool Mittens from Caroline at the Mitten Factory.

Ah Choo

I know a lot of people were in love with Grace Bonney's wedding invitations, so let's all rush over to Bird and Banner and pick up some vintage handprinted hankerchiefs, right.... NOW.

In Bloom

I have a pretty sweet patio in my backyard, and I can't stop thinking about how I'll be spending every free moment there next summer. I hope that the Pod Aluminum Planters will still be available by then, because I could definitely do with a couple dozen of those beauties.

Oh November

I can't believe I only discovered this 2009 Thyme Calendar from Nora WhyNot Press at the end of the year. Let's hope the 2010 edition is somehow even more beautiful.

Garrisons

The button detail on the Doubs Gloves found at Need Supply Co are just to die for, wouldn't you agree?

When You're Awake

Last week Jane mentioned her love of dark and sombre music for fall listening. That's exactly the mood that I musically get into as well, and Hospice by The Antlers is perfect for that. Moody and melodic and soothing, I just can't get enough. Especially of the track "Epilogue."

Clusters

I am totally smitten by these new necklaces by Laura Lombardi. Considering them on my Christmas list.
