All She Wrote

A little back story here. Jane and I found the most beautiful dress recently for the store. Like, staggeringly beautiful. Anthropologie, eat your heart out.

So, we were thrilled when Kate, a fellow Hamiltonian, messaged us to try it on. She came by the store and it suit her like a dream. It eased the pain of losing such a perfect dress, because it went to the perfect home.

Afterwards I stumbled across her adorable blog, kate the hunter and kind of fell in love. We live in the same city. We should be friends!

And as a result of being creepy, I stumbled upon the intricate and beautiful textile work of Dorie Millerson.

Happy endings all around!

Block Party

I love when I visit a commenter's website and find something awesome. Like this Cinderblock Necklace by Kiel Mead that I just found over at Gus & Other Things. AMAZING.

An Ode

I have recently developed a crazy love affair with young Sissy Spacek. It's happened slowly over time, without me really noticing for a while until suddenly I was crazy about her. I think it started with re-watching Coal Miner's Daughter a while ago, and then this past weekend I saw the 1982 film Missing, and suddenly, WHOA, she is amazing.

To me she looks like everything that was beautiful and great about the 70's. I wish I could find some good screen shots of Missing, because I basically want to completely steal her look from that movie.

I'm also kind of endeared that during her aspiring singer phase, she wrote a song called John, You've Gone Too Far This Time, about that naked Two Virgins cover he did. Are you endeared by that? You should be.

Hair Hair Hair

Joanna Newsom - Photo by Pete Newsom

Let's talk about hair. This week I had a dream that I got bored of my hair and bottle-dyed in blond one night. It was one of those dreams that seemed completely real, and I remember losing it once I realized the consequences of my actions.

You see, I started dying my hair blond as soon as I was allowed to at age 13, and I kept it blond until the year I finished university. Now I've spent almost 4 years growing it out, and it's only in the last year that I can say my hair is 100% my natural color. I'm pretty happy about this accomplishment, so when in my dream I died it blond, I was horrified at the realization I would have to grow it all out again.

Let's revisit blond haired me. This sort of goes hand in hand with yesterday's post about wishing I had any style at sixteen. I didn't. In fact, neither Hollie or I had any style 18. Observe:

Anyway, I have brown hair now, and *I think* more style. In the past few years I've tried side-bangs multiple times and HATED them. It was probably the cut, but I always always regretted it. So much so, that every time I contemplated getting them Hollie was like "PLEASE GOD NO!!! I CAN'T TAKE HEARING ABOUT YOUR BANGS FOR ANOTHER TWO MONTHS!!!". She was justified in this response.

The Stylish Wanderer

So, given that, you would think I wouldn't go for a full on blunt bangs, but a couple of months ago, I did. I sent a picture of yesterday's sixteen year old blogger to my hair stylist and asked her to do that. And guess what? I love it so much. Now all I want is more bangs more bangs more bangs. I find myself looking at pictures of girls with bangs all the time now, and can't wait until my next appointment to get more.

Wow, rambling. Anyway, without further adieu, my current hair inspiration:

Turtles!

Today Hollie and I had a business meeting. I brought turtles to the store. We ate them on the internet.

If you didn't know already, Hollie is sort of a professional at this.

SWOON

A little word of advice for any of our male readers: make sure to IMMEDIATELY purchase one of these adorable letterpress and die cut sculpture cards from Egg Press for your sweetie this Valentine's Day. I'm not kidding. Immediately. Trust me.

Jealously and Awe

According to her blog, this girl is fourteen years old. FOURTEEN YEARS OLD. Well, there are entries that go back to 2008, so it's possible that she's now sixteen, but still... SIXTEEN YEARS OLD!

I wish I had any sense of style at that age. Anything other than the zebra purse and baseball shirts I wore all the time. I can't decide if I'm jealous of this girl, or in awe. I think both. Either way, its a really weird feeling to have about a sixteen, possible fourteen year old.

Also, her hair was my inspiration for my latest haircut, but we'll talk more about that tomorrow.

Mark the Boundary

I am in love with the line of artist designed fabrics over at St. Jude's. I especially love the new design, Hedgerow. My mind is racing with what I could possibly use it for in my home.

Pardon My Pun

It's raining this morning, but it's also warm enough that I got away with not blow-drying my hair this morning. Terrifying global warming aside, I consider this a feat!

Such a feat in fact, that I've spent the morning looking at BC Footwear and dreaming about what I'll put on my feet this spring.

Book By It's Cover

Saw these book jackets and bookmarks on A Cup of Jo and had to repost. What an amazing idea. Someone really needs to pay Icoeye to mass produce these, stat.

Hi Guys!

Sometimes Jane forgets to bring her computer to the store and has to use mine. It's a treat because it usually means video surprises! I like this series, a lot.

The usual bunch of numb-skulls around White Elephant. Mike told me to write that.

Picnics All The Time, Please

It has been startlingly warm for January in Canada this week. We actually haven't had a major snowstorm yet, which is totally bizarre. On one hand, it's freaking me out. On the other hand, it's giving me a false hope of a spring that's just around the corner. A spring where I could use the Bent Walnut Picnic Wine Tote from teal & gold rather frequently.

Keeping It To Myself

These have been on my favorites list for months, and I can't believe I haven't posted them yet. Well, yes I can. I really really want them for myself. Just before Christmas they were marked as sold on the same day my boyfriend announced he had found my present, so I thought maybe, just maybe they were coming to me. Tragedy.

Just a few of the lovely things we added to the shop this week...

M.J. Winkler

One of our awesome former contributers, Biljana, sent along this link to Letterheady, because she thought "Man, this is perfect for Love It A Lot."

She couldn't have been more right. I love this. A lot.

One of my favourite photographers, Bryan Schutmaat has a new website. That news certainly made my day.
