Required Reading Vol. 5

Jane left for New York City last night, and I'm leaving for Mexico tomorrow. A well deserved break on both our parts. It's been about two years since I went on a proper getaway vacation, and I am feeling it. Mike and I are going to see our friend Dave get married, and we're pretty excited about it. So, we apologize for the lack of updates around here, but hopefully these awesome (and local!) blogs will keep you entertained and enthralled.

Domestic Scientist is the blog of one of our dear friends, Thea. A member of the Beehive Craft Collective and an absolute classic lady, her blog is full of delicious baking and preserving recipes, delightful histories about the women in her family, details about her embroidery work, and gardening know-how.  Thea is straight out of another time, and I want to soak up all of her knowledge of how to do things the old-fashioned way. You should want to as well.

Tara is behind Lulou & Ada, one of my favourite reads of late. A visual treat, her blog is a pin-board of her exceptional interests. We carry some of Tara's embroidered badges in the shop, and I've slowly been developing a major girl crush on her. Sometimes I feel creepy about how in line our interests fall - from looms and weaving to beekeeping to Iceland and Queen Elizabeth II. She frequently posts interesting links and stories, and it's well worth to read back through her archives.

Georgie Russell is another artist that we carry at the shop, screenprinting under the name Hand & Shadow. I personally own a couple of her t-shirts (hello, amazing wolf and tooth prints!) and the Nebula Scarf, which is currently my favourite wardrobe piece . Her blog, Braided Stream, is a collection of nature and art and craft and science. Georgie posts are usually based on her research or inspiration from the natural world, and since I am such a huge fan of her work, I quite enjoy finding out as much about her process as possible.

I can't even remember how I stumbled upon This Must Be The Place, but I'm so glad that I did. This is a newer blog, based out of Hamilton, and the photography and writing is just lovely. It's nice to see more lifestyle blogging popping up in Hamilton, and it's comforting to see all the likeminded and cool people moving in. It doesn't hurt that the blog is also named after my favourite Talking Heads songs. Good choice.

Happy weekend everyone!!! Our lovely interns will be manning the shop this weekend. Come say hi! I'll be on the beach if you need me.
