Space Saver

Y'know, four solid years of my life was spent discussing "the space" in terms of visual arts (space within "the gallery", "the studio", the "possibility of space" within the concept of "space"), but I never thought my brain would explode the way it does when poring over the work of Phil Delisle.

Actually, I think my brain just exploded while typing that.
I had the privilege of partly assisting in the installation of his current show at Forest City Gallery. If you are in town, it is worth checking out. But be prepared: You'll want to talk about "the space", even if you don't know what that means right now.

Run Rabbit Run

I don't think it's humanly possible for me to love anything more than Elizabeth Soule's Little Zoo series of polaroid photography right now.

Toronto, Hamilton & Buffalo

The art revitilization going on in Hamilton really makes me tingly all over. This weekend, I had the pleasure of attending the TH&B show at the Imperial Cotton Centre and I was absolutely blown away by it. If you are still a doubter about the revolution happening within Hamilton, stop by this weekend (you can tour the rest of the Cotton Centre since it is also Doors Open) and you can see how our little city is becoming ambitious once again.

Some pieces include performance based work, which will be debuting May 3rd at 8pm. I can't wait to see the show in it's full form.

Hard Candy

LOOOOOOVE these candy-coloured works-of-art-furniture from Guerrilla Design... I can't seem to find a website for them, but here is their page from the recent March 2008 One-of-A-Kind Show.

Beautiful!

Zeebou

If you're lucky enough to know Jane or I in person, you'll most likely have heard about African Dance. We rave about it constantly. Which is why it's so exciting that we were able to convince our teacher to come and teach classes in Hamilton, instead of us making the trek to Toronto each week. If you want to be a part of something totally amazing and have a ton of fun and an incredible workout at the same time, join us with Sani-Abu of Ijo Vudu Dance on Sundays at 2pm at the Sky Dragon Center. It will be the one recommendation that you should definitely take from me. Classes start this Sunday!

Cardiovascular Cuddles

It may be a bit difficult to put on, but it doesn't mean I will not attempt a little amateur surgery to get into these knitwear organs. Perfect for those long Canadian winters and teddy bears on dialysis.

Not A Heavy Book, A Light Book

UGH, while we're on the topic of birthdays, can someone PLEASE buy me The Enlightenment Book Lamp as an early birthday present for me?

Or it could be a late Easter present. Or an early Victoria Day present. I'll accept it for any occasion, really.

Modern Kicks

Have you heard about Mike Long and his new website Dance Futura? He's a fellow Hamiltonian and a sweeeeet dancer. He posts a new video every day featuring a different song, different location, and some of those sweeeeet moves. He's going to be doing this every day for the next two years.

You can check out ALL of his videos on YouTube if you've got a hankering for some more.

Swim So Wild And Swim So Free

Even though I love all of the Planet Earth episodes, I would definitely have to say that the Deep Sea one is my absolute favourite. In fact, I love anything Deep Sea related. Including this new Deepsea print from Eleanor Grosch. I just love all dem freaky fishies.

Play It Again, Sam

I think this Piano Playin' Octopus Print by Susie Ghahremani
is the most adorable print I've seen in a while...

I'm going through a jellyfish / octopus - type - phase right now, and I'm not sure why. All I know is that this would look great in my bathroom.

Styrofoam Cups

I was instructing last week at an art camp (hence my lack of posting... apologies), and after each exhausting day I'd take a moment and remember the point: I really enjoy studying art and making art, and inspiring others to try it too.

Anyway, all that is to say that I found an old issue of Sculpture magazine, and a bookmarked article on the work of artist Tara Donovan.

Love.

Turncoat

Part of me feels guilty about posting a fabulous vintage find that neither Jane and I scooped up. But then the other part of me would feel way more guilty if I didn't use my internet powers for good and let everyone know about these incredible vintage store signs from blue bell bazaar.

But seriously guys, don't buy all of them. I've got my eye on two, and am thisclose to purchasing them for my new workspace.

Thunder Bolt

Really, Keep Calm? Another absolutely beautiful print? Just who do you think you are? You can't expect me to save any of my hard-earned dollars if I'm spending it all on your products.

Hey By'!

I'm posting this print from The Souvenir Shop so that if traditional Newfoundland speech does really die, noone will ever forget that lovable newfie Mike Fleming and his nose tokes.

Your Life

So, I guess I wasn't clear enough with my engagement announcement post. I did in fact get engaged, and I couldn't be more thrilled. Firstly, because I get to marry the man of my dreams, and secondly, I get to PLAN something. O, the thrill of organization!

Right now I'm working on my colour palette for the wedding, and I simply love COLOURlovers as a tool to help me figure it all out. I think I'm going relatively simple, but as a interior design enthusiast as well, I know that I'll be keeping this page in my bookmarks for years to come.

Falling Slowly

This print pretty much sums up exactly how I'm feeling right now.

I Wonder What We'd Talk About

Happy Valentine's Day Jane! I was totally going to get you this Conversations With Polar Bears piece by Tara Hogan, but I didn't know if it would work into your art wall theme. So instead, my Valentine's day present to you is simply bringing this beautiful piece of art to your attention.

What'd you get me?

Savant

Blackstock's Collections may just be my new favorite thing. The entire book is filled with pages of visual lists, hand-drawn by Blackstock himself, a self-described "austistic and artistic savant".

Maybe it's the little bit of obessive compulsive in me, but I absolutely love love love these collections of images. Even more endearing, is the hand-written autobiography that Blackstock includes, which should completely melt even the coldest of hearts.

Victorian Delorean

Discovering Silhouette Masterpiece Theatre today has pretty much made my morning. (Well that, and the Honey Crueller donut I had for breakfast.) I really hope the artist starts to sell prints of these, because I would absolutely love to frame a couple and hang them in my apartment.

Anyway, go check them out now, they are quite simply... masterpieces.
