Welcome To The Night Sky
Do you know what is infinity times cooler than those glow-in-the-dark stars that you stick to your ceiling? Your own Personal Planetarium!!!!
It's not even funny how much I want this.

The Story Of Stuff. I feel kind of sheepish posting this on a shopping blog. And I feel a little more than kind of disgusted with the state of things.

If you're lucky enough to know Jane or I in person, you'll most likely have heard about African Dance. We rave about it constantly. Which is why it's so exciting that we were able to convince our teacher to come and teach classes in Hamilton, instead of us making the trek to Toronto each week. If you want to be a part of something totally amazing and have a ton of fun and an incredible workout at the same time, join us with Sani-Abu of Ijo Vudu Dance on Sundays at 2pm at the Sky Dragon Center. It will be the one recommendation that you should definitely take from me. Classes start this Sunday!
I've always felt that I'm not tough enough for brass knuckles. Always felt that way. However, upon coming across these Wooden Knuckles, I have decided that I am just badsass enough to pull these off. You wouldn't want to cut in front of me in the line for tickets at Silvercity now, would you?

For all other alt/eco brides in Toronto, this weekend is Canada's first Eco-Wedding and Lifestyle Show. It's being held at The Design Exchange, and you'll be able to learn about vendors, companies and green options that will help you have a beautiful wedding while reducing your impact on the environment.

So, I guess I wasn't clear enough with my engagement announcement post. I did in fact get engaged, and I couldn't be more thrilled. Firstly, because I get to marry the man of my dreams, and secondly, I get to PLAN something. O, the thrill of organization!
Right now I'm working on my colour palette for the wedding, and I simply love COLOURlovers as a tool to help me figure it all out. I think I'm going relatively simple, but as a interior design enthusiast as well, I know that I'll be keeping this page in my bookmarks for years to come.
I was looking all day for something red or pink to post in honour of Valentine's Day, and couldn't find anything I liked. That is, until I came across the Red Dot Campaign, and it seems just perfect. The Earth is one of my great loves, and this will be my Valentine's Day gift to it.

I was at my local Shoppers today, grabbing some cold n' sinus relief, when I passed by the most delectable-smelling Raspberry Chocolate Massaging Soufflé EVER.
If I didn't already have a zillion new yummy cremes at home from Christmas, I probably would have picked up this little number and all of her Double Chocolate Raspberry family and friends.
I also contemplated scooping up her Decadent Chocolate Mint cousins as well.

With Scrabulous proving to be the best thing to happen to facebook, I think it's only fitting that I draw your attention to this lovely Chocolate Scrabble bar by Mary & Matt.

Ok, if I had chosen "Breakfast at Tiffany's" as my wedding theme, and had the magical experience of having Martha Stewart design it, I'm pretty sure that my heart would explode with sheer joy.

I like Hollie's attitude!
Here is another non-consumerist-type idea (so you can get and give stuff without spending money!) It's called Freecycle, and here is the story (Quoted from BEYOND magazine, issue #14 [which I also LOOOOOVE]):
"[A few] years ago, Deron Beal from Tuscan, Arizona began giving away items online. As an employee of a recycling company, he was overwhelmed by the amount of perfectly reusable items ending up in landfills. When he started offering those items for free online, he didn't imagine that his website would result in the creation of over two thousand [now over 4,000] Freecycling communities with over one million members trading everything from cars to wedding dresses... Join a Freecycling community! (As you might have guessed, it's free.)
But follow the etiquette:
* Everything posted must be FREE. No trading, bartering or money is involved.
* Everything posted must be a tangible item; no services or advice can be offered.
* All items must be legal, safe, and appropriate for all ages."
Awesome!

"Created to take a stand against the greatest threat our planet has ever faced, Earth Hour uses the simple action of turning off the lights for one hour to deliver a powerful message about the need for action on global warming.
This simple act has captured the hearts and minds of people all over the world. As a result, at 8pm on the 29 March, 2008 millions of people in some of the world’s major capital cities, including Copenhagen, Toronto, Chicago, Melbourne, Brisbane, Tel Aviv and Manila will unite and switch off for Earth Hour."
I hope that you are one of those millions of people.

Did you make a New Year's resolution to eat healthier? Me too. Did you make a New Year's resolution to do your part in saving our beautiful planet? Me too! Since we are kindred spirits, I'll let you in on how I'm doing both at the same time.
I've signed up to receive weekly winter shares from plan b Organic Farm. They have huge shares, a great selection of fruit/vegetables/herbs, and it's organic and locally grown. You can't really get much better than that. Wait, I lied. They'll also send recipes and how to prepare/care for the food you got in your weekly shipment, just in case you have no idea what to do with all those parsnips and leeks.
The price is right, there are tons of pickup locations (or you could opt for home delivery even!), and you're doing a service to yourself, the local economy and our environment. What an easy way to strike some resolutions off your list.

Oh Dear Stella, how I yearn to be you for a day.
Your clothing, your fragrances, your general perspective on life - How I wish I could somehow experience even just a slice of these lovely things for my very own.
Laura, I think while you're in England, you should stalk this lovely lady and become best friends with her, so through association I can stalk and become best friends with her. Then we could all go out for drinks, in Stella's clothes and wearing her oh-so-lovely perfumes.
Good idea? Yes.
Did I use the word "lovely" three times in this post? Yes.
Have I gone a little batty in 2008? Yes.

While the intentions are good, I still don't think that bloody guts would keep me from breaking my piggy bank. I like materialism too much to be scared away by some lil' ol' guts.

A couple of things to consider:
1) Daniel Day-Lewis
2) P.T. Anderson
3) Limited release this weekend
I just made your plans for the evening, didn't I?

HELLO SHOP OF MY DREAMS.
Seriously, this is the best idea I've seen in a while. Unique Eyewear of Texas not only sell amazing vintage frames, but since they work out of an optometrist clinic they will also fit your newly purchased vintage frames with your prescription lenses. I have had a pair of vintage glasses for almost a year now, sitting idly in my jewelry box because I have been too lazy to go and get some lenses. SO I KNOW HOW AMAZING THIS STORE REALLY IS.
Seriously, heaven. I am such a glasses nerd.

Hands up if you work in a boring, uninspired, grey-walled cubicle? Do you know what you need?? A hand-made ceramic planter garden from Greenware Design. I need one, badly. Since I just started a new job, my cubicle is in dire need of some love & attention. This Butter Cream Cup Planter would do just the trick. And, as an added bonus, all the planters are made by hand, and then lovingly filled with beautiful succulents.

Fashion magazines are the silent killer. Sure a gal can buy a lot of shoes, fonts, lipsticks, books, DVDs and complain about the financial repercussions of her addiction, but its the glossies that finally get you.*
Why this horror story build up? Well to explain my excitement of stumbling upon Papier Doll... an online fix to the fashion mag fetish. While there is nothing like the real thing, 'pd' doesn't skimp on features, reviews and interviews. Its free, lovely and has a daily component to supplement its seasonal articles.
The tipping point that pushed pd into LIAL posting position is pd's sister, Thriftychick — a blog which hands out sales, coupons and promotions like there is no tomorrow.
* unless you are Jessica who hates magazines, after she OD'd as a child.
