U.S. Patent 3,691,140

I think this may be the classiest Post-It Pad there ever was. I am drooling over the versatility of sizing, and the fact that it's not bright canary yellow. When I become the CEO of some big-shot company, I will ensure classy post-it pads for all!

My Grandmother Is A Hula Dancer

I am always up for at least considering any exercise I can do surfing the internet (if you are actually a productive member of society, insert 'work'). One of the many problems of such routines (you know, besides the fact that they don't really work) is that I am too lazy to constantly clench my ab/ass/vag muscles for the billion reps it takes to get results. Plus, yawn. Work is boring already.

So imagine the outright glee of the Hawaii Chair... all you have to do it try and stay on! And not laugh out loud at all the fun you are having at work.

God I miss infomercials.

Love To My Design Hos

Alright, for 99% of readers, this will be useless. But Stanford U's artificial intelligence lab has released a 'live trace' tool that is way better than... uhhh Adobe Illustrator's LiveTrace? Basically if you have a rastor image you need to be vectorized, it will do a trick. And its free. POW! Vector Magic

Thats Right: The MacBook Air

OHHHHHHH my god. I feel a little guilty typing this entry on my cherished Powerbook (which still has to see me through six months of design school without loosing my entire thesis — love ya babe!) but sweet sexy lord, the MacBook Air is ridiculous. I mean, besides the fact you can mail it flat in an envelope with room to spare (don't.. the post will kick the shit out of it, its still a computer) the interface features are beautiful. The trackpad is basically a mini Microsoft Surface. My brain cannot comprehend it. The photo does not do it justice. Watch these two clips.

Anyone who bought a Mac in the past year is going to be tearing their hair out.

Zelpuz

Do you know what the most fun I've had all day has been? No, it hasn't been the shipping out of masses and masses of tapes. Close, though. It's been trying to figure out the riddles on today's date on the Cranium Page A Day Calendar that my co-worker has at her desk. She is going to regret ever showing it to me. I'll be there all day, every day.

Just so you can get an idea of what a good work procrastination tool it is, today's riddle is:

Name the following stores found at the mall:

1. Livestock Housing and Aristocrat
2. Corporeal Fabrication Area

I've got number one, but I'm terribly stuck on two. Any guesses?

Christmas Wish List Continued

Hands up if you work in a boring, uninspired, grey-walled cubicle? Do you know what you need?? A hand-made ceramic planter garden from Greenware Design. I need one, badly. Since I just started a new job, my cubicle is in dire need of some love & attention. This Butter Cream Cup Planter would do just the trick. And, as an added bonus, all the planters are made by hand, and then lovingly filled with beautiful succulents.

Quirky Is The Word

I'm not sure if these Quirky Birds from At West End are ugly or adorable, but either way I'm strangely attracted to them. Made of natural rocks and recycled iron, these could be used as paperweights or be a decorative conversation piece!

Or maybe you could put them in a pretty bird cage and it would be a conversation piece, but in that "you're a little nuts" kind of way. I dunno. I'm in a weird mood.

PSA: Workplace Safety & Insurance Board

The WSIB of Ontario has put out a new set of PSA's that are totally disturbing, and kind of totally awesome. In a weird and gruesome way, they make me proud to be a Canadian.

Check out The Chef, Family Man, Retail, and Factory, but be warned that they can get a little graphic.

I Really Need A Job

I think I've previously mentioned my love of sticky notes. I especially love them in assorted sizes and colours. So this Self-adhesive Note Set from Russell+Hazel is, in my opinion, an absolutely essential buy for the office. Not only are the colours adorable, but the little ones are called "chicklets" and that is reason enough to make me want them.

I'd also like to mention that the Russell+Hazel site has a ton of other office-related products that I LOVE, like this Audrey Tote and the entire Celery colour collection. Now if only I actually had an office (or desk, or any type of work scenario) to keep these items in. If only.

Arctic Cloudberries

I'm thinking of converting my unused dining room into a home office. It's really just so that I'll have an excuse to buy pretty pens, and paperweights, and oh my, this wonderful 2008 Wall Calendar by JHill Design.

This is for you, Jane.

Organized Crime

I use a ton of file folders at work. This doesn't necessarily mean that I file things per say, I more just look for an empty file folder and shove whatever document I have in there. However, I might get all organized and shit if I had these gorgeous Emma Woodgrain Filex Folders from Delight that I would want to keep immaculate at all times.

Show And Tell

Believe it or not, I am not a design genius. Far from it, in fact. I wish I was. I'm getting there, but when it comes to inspiration and even technical know-how I've got a lot to learn.

That is why I am thrilled that one of my classes is going on a field trip to the Metro Toronto Convention Centre tomorrow to check out the first annual Explore Design education fair! There are loads of seminars led by working professionals as well as information booths catered towards every possible design discipline - everything from advertising (my soon-to-be forte) to animation, interior to industrial. I plan on doing a little shopping at the fair also, as my new apartment is in desperate need of a few 'pieces of flare.'

This event runs all day Oct 10th and 11th and costs $15 a head. Ch-ch-ch-check it out.

I Will

Even though it's a little early to start looking at 2008 calendars, I can't help but drool over Nikki McClure's Things to Make and Do Calendar found at Elsewares.

And besides, it's never too early to start working on your New Year's resolutions.

Esteban! Esteban! Esteban!

Even though I haven't done it in a couple of years now, I really missed back-to-school shopping this year.

Especially since one of the things on my shopping list would have most definitely been this Aquatic Adventure Weekly Planner from Cut + Paste.

We All Know You Are Reading This Page At Work

Designer toys (literally, playthings, not like 'the iPhone' or 'solar telepathic calculators' or anything listed in a Wired article) seem to be all the rage lately. Lord knows why odd shaped creatures with funky fabrics give one creative cred, but there we are.

Unfortunately, these little dudes are often considered 'works of art' (really) with appropriate price tag, so they will feel at home when artistically arranged on the Eames chair.

So in honour to those of my posse who work for a living (especially those who are beginning or about to embark on their office careers this week) I present Readymerch: a cute collection of completely free/easy to construct hipster paper toys to decorate your desk. So even when you reach your 'disillusion' stage, you can take passive revenge on your employer by using office supplies to make an army of toys (and take part in any imaginary epic battles, i.e 'The Staple Massacre of Printer Cartridge-ville') and be paid to do it.

?

When you're struggling to pay for an apartment, do you think buying a $65 monogrammed paperweight would be considered extravagant?

Because this Dome Paperweight in Elegant Wreath Sky is exactly the colors I want my apartment to be, and oh my gosh I love it.

I Am...Magneto!

I don't even know where to begin with this but: Magnet tacks! They're like normal tacks that have magnets on the end so you can stick anything metal or whatever sticks to magnets on them. Keys, pens, tweezers...the possibilities are endless! The magnets appear pretty strong too - one of the pictures shows a wrench on a magnet tack.

My main problem with this is that I might just start throwing stuff at the wall to see if it sticks, and end up creating an even bigger mess. But even still, it'd be pretty fun while I was doing it.

404 Error

I go through a ton of Post-Its in a day, and not because I really have anything all that important to mark down at work, but more because I love the little yellow sticky guys. It's paper! That is sticky! How could you not love Post-Its? So it's pretty much guaranteed that if I owned these amazing Icon Adhesive Notes from Atypyk, I would go through the pad in about two hours flat.
