Riot Grrl

I've always felt that I'm not tough enough for brass knuckles. Always felt that way. However, upon coming across these Wooden Knuckles, I have decided that I am just badsass enough to pull these off. You wouldn't want to cut in front of me in the line for tickets at Silvercity now, would you?

Get Off My Lawn!

Nothing makes me feel old like my little cousin. This little cousin who once threw up on my lap as a baby/young enough to miss the ironic trucker hat fad, is now old enough to send me crazy kid/teen trends via the internet! Trends that, wow, I am way to old to pull off... and what? You are still wearing leggings? God that is like soooooo five hundred years ago. Why do you have to embarrass me on the internet?!

For instance, the weather. Apparently temperature is pretty cool, because Mela cannot get over these thermometer necklaces! And earrings! Totally radical. So I thought I would post her finds here and make LIAL the only shopping blog on the edge of 13 year old coolness.*

Also: everyone, we are old enough to remember retro now (hi early nineties).

* I still think Mela is like five, but apparently shes sixteen and can drive now... or like twelve or something. I have no idea but she is still adorable as a button and I will pinch her cheeks until she gets married. And I would listen to her advice, she has been cooler than me since she was three.

Ping Pong Speakeasy

I think LIAL needs its own little section devoted to Ping Pong... always entertaining, the little rec room game is really getting star design treatment these days. No space? Well may I offer the second solution to table tennis-loving apartment dwellers: Ping Pong Door. During the day the table folds up into a perfectly functional and unassuming door. At night? Well its party time my friend!

Double bonus: if Ping Pong ever becomes illegal, you are positioned to be the center of the underground resistance movement!

Pelecanidae

Did you guys know that Jane has a collection of pelicans? It's a little weird, but I am also jealous of how wicked all the pelican imagery looks in her living room. That's why I immediately thought of you, Jane, when I came across these Pelican Sticker Stamp Set from Three Potato Four. I think I like your collection more than you do.

Scrabulicious

With Scrabulous proving to be the best thing to happen to facebook, I think it's only fitting that I draw your attention to this lovely Chocolate Scrabble bar by Mary & Matt.

It's delicious AND fun... my two favorite adjectives.
(Some might say it's also educational)

My Grandmother Is A Hula Dancer

I am always up for at least considering any exercise I can do surfing the internet (if you are actually a productive member of society, insert 'work'). One of the many problems of such routines (you know, besides the fact that they don't really work) is that I am too lazy to constantly clench my ab/ass/vag muscles for the billion reps it takes to get results. Plus, yawn. Work is boring already.

So imagine the outright glee of the Hawaii Chair... all you have to do it try and stay on! And not laugh out loud at all the fun you are having at work.

God I miss infomercials.

Scott Wise Knew A Girl Called Ping Pong

I do not get behind many 'sports' but ping pong is 20000x different. Its huge failing, however, is the fact that the giganormus ugly green table is not suited to the carefully accumulated retro/eclectic chic of the hipster girl flat.

So dudes, I say why can't the ping pong table get some I.D loving? Oh it has? Please give the man a prize! After the game, I could even use the top to serve "ironic Sunday tea in mint green stag cameo vintage cups" to all my "be-fringed, opaque tight-wearing, topshop-loving" sisters.

Do you know how many times I have gone back to these Vintage Paper Love Birds in the last two weeks? Too many times to remember. I can't get them out of my mind, they are just way too cute.

I don't know what else I need to say about them as this point. You can see the picture, you can see the cuteness. They are all one of a kind, and beautiful, and made of recycled paper and fabric which makes them not only adorable, but a good green gift as well. Is it too early to start making a birthday wish list?

Thats Right: The MacBook Air

OHHHHHHH my god. I feel a little guilty typing this entry on my cherished Powerbook (which still has to see me through six months of design school without loosing my entire thesis — love ya babe!) but sweet sexy lord, the MacBook Air is ridiculous. I mean, besides the fact you can mail it flat in an envelope with room to spare (don't.. the post will kick the shit out of it, its still a computer) the interface features are beautiful. The trackpad is basically a mini Microsoft Surface. My brain cannot comprehend it. The photo does not do it justice. Watch these two clips.

Anyone who bought a Mac in the past year is going to be tearing their hair out.

Zelpuz

Do you know what the most fun I've had all day has been? No, it hasn't been the shipping out of masses and masses of tapes. Close, though. It's been trying to figure out the riddles on today's date on the Cranium Page A Day Calendar that my co-worker has at her desk. She is going to regret ever showing it to me. I'll be there all day, every day.

Just so you can get an idea of what a good work procrastination tool it is, today's riddle is:

Name the following stores found at the mall:

1. Livestock Housing and Aristocrat
2. Corporeal Fabrication Area

I've got number one, but I'm terribly stuck on two. Any guesses?

Weinberg, Take Note

After using some sort of "gamer tech cult underground network mojo" my brother bought himself Rock Band for Christmas (as no one would sleep outside a Walmart to get it for him). Thus, for three glorious days, I was in a "band" (uh... with my brother, sister, and respective boy/girlfriends).

I never really understood the appeal of Guitar Hero. I mean, yeah, it was fun but I always felt like I was (frantically) playing the piano rather embodying some sort of bad ass guitar... ugh... hero. Rock Band, however, contains the drums (oh man I love the drums) and, at least for someone who has never touched a drum set, it reealllly felt like I was rocking out on stage, like some sort of Phil Collins gorilla in a Cadbury commerical.

I mean yes, its a lot of kit, and yes you have to convince someone to give up the guitar/base/drums for a turn on the mic, but Rock Band is totally a holiday hype-toy I can get behind.Go make friends with someone who got one for Christmas.

21st Century Holga

For those who are in love with the 'oldie tyme' focus of Holga cameras, but cannot give up their lazy ass digital SLR (um... here!)... Holgamods!

Dude-crafty "Randy" has modified Holga lenses to fit onto to body of your digital SLR... giving you that characteristic look but with the ability to take 20000 gazillion photos or preview your pics right away... and any other feature you enjoy on a digital camera.

My Buddy

I don't usually gush over cute toys, but two people at my work have these Solar Buddy's, and oh my god, are they ever adorable. And surprisingly calming! How can you not smile as you walk past the little guy who nods his head all day long.

Maybe if everyone had one on their desk, the world would be a much happier place.

I Have Always Been A Fan Of The Silly Straw

In terms of beverage consumption, my eyes have been opened. How could I ever drink grape pop with anything, but strawz?

I never knew life had meaning, until now.

In Honour Of The Shy

This Delicate Heart Paper Doll is far more gorgeous and intricate than any boring Barbie paper doll set I had as a kid.

Woody Allen (Without Heels)

Encountered 'Who Tall Are You?' in my goode olde locale bookshoppe last week. While hardly a Eames chair, I'd imagine it would be an interesting talking point during dinner parties... for the rest of your life.

(author note: Not sure why I went all 'olde english' for a second)

My Arm Is Cheaper Than $30

I am a big fan of self-photography... that is stretching your arm out and taking a picture of your and your eighteen friends drunkenly huddled together on the dancefloor in some club (or, for some reason, the street afterwards). Why? Basically at that distance the flash automatically photoshops your face to look as smooth and luminous as a Maxim cover model. And no one will steal your camera.

There. Dirty secret. However if you want to look like an idiot in real life (as opposed to self-shot group pictures), you can take advantage of UO 'Self-Portrait Arm' to create Kodak memories that appear as if you have an endless supply of helpful strangers (or ugly, unliked friends).

You're My Hero

So I was going to post this and try to pass it off as something for the boys, since Ty has been harping about buying this game for the past, like, hundred years.

BUT. We picked it up yesterday morning and BOTH of us have been playing it non-stop ever since. Yes, I'll admit, I do enjoy Guitar Hero III for XBox 360 with the wireless remote guitar (my male counterpart made sure that I included those special details).

While he plays a whole career's-worth of songs on "Medium" or "Hard", I can pick and choose which little Ditties I can handle on "Easy". My personal favs to rock out on are School's Out for Summer, Rock You Like a Hurricane and My Name is Jonas.

If you had XBox Live I could even challenge You!

Ok, seriously, did I just write that? - This game is transformational. Now we just need to buy Rock Band and then I can play bass like I want to.

Oh Those Bones, Oh Those Skeleton Bones

Do you know that Jenga is my favourite game? Well, it is. But I might have to convert over to this deliciously spooky Bone Stacking Game from Chocosho for Halloween!

I don't think I could help but sing "Dry Bones" every time I play it though.

For The Boys

Please, I do not want to get into a gender role argument but I think AK may be postmodern enough to play with these dada dolls.

I dunno he seems 'into these things' if you know what I mean (and by that I mean Constructivism, Futurism, Dadaism, etc).

Let me introduce you to 'Frank' (above) and for LIAL ladies, there is Callie who has cakes inside!
